The local following seems to be very low key, under the radar. The Archdiocese of Indianapolis seems rather dismissive of it, which I take to be evidence of the hierarchy's continuing disconnect with the average person in the pew. But I was really quite surprised to find a folk saint in Indiana. It was something I usually imagined happening in deeply Catholic cultures, like South America or Italy. Since I was thinking about working with folk saints at the time, I took it as a definite "yes, go ahead"! I'll try to post updates. I plan to take a freezing dive in outdoor water later in February, and I'll be using it as a chance for intense spiritual purification and to ask Fr. Villars to be my "tamanous-patron." I'll probably write a post about it.
